William Smith (geologo)

William Smith (1769 – 1839), geologo inglese.

I fossili organizzati sono per il naturalista come le monete per l'antiquario; sono le antichità della terra; e mostrano molto distintamente la sua formazione graduale e regolare, con i vari cambi di abitanti dell'elemento acquoso.

Organized Fossils are to the naturalist as coins to the antiquary; they are the antiquities of the earth; and very distinctly show its gradual regular formation, with the various changes of inhabitants in the watery element.^[1]
