In dance music, artists often release singles when they want because they feel it's the right moment. We wanted to have that kind of freedom. In rock and metal everything seems to be very traditional – you release an album every few years and then you have three singles. But when something's happening right now, you can't wait three years to talk about that subject. We wanted to release music in the moment when it matters, and there's no way we could have done that had we still been on a label.

• [Sull'invasione dell'Ucraina da parte della Russia] È stato uno shock totale davvero, perché per noi, [la capitale dell'Ucraina] Kiev è a due ore e mezza di volo da Amsterdam. Trascorro molto tempo in Spagna perché ci vivo parte dell'anno e anche quella è a due ore e mezza di distanza. È una guerra che colpisce davvero tutti.

That was really a complete shock, because for us, [Ukraine's capital] Kyiv is a two-and-a-half hour flight from Amsterdam. I spend a lot of time in Spain because I live there part of the year and that's also two-and-a-half hours away. To make it feasible in everyone's mind how close that is, [imagine a town that's two-and-a-half hours away] and that's where a war is starting. And it's a heavy war. It's a war that really affects everybody.
