• Mio padre in particolare è sempre stato interessato all'arte e ho sentito che era molto talentuoso nel disegno. Durante la mia infanzia, ogni settimana mi procurava circa 10 CD e due video. Mi ha davvero aperto al lato artistico, tuttavia molti coreani sono molto accademici e conservatori, quindi sono stata portata a studiare molto e non sono mai stata incoraggiata a fare qualcosa legato all'arte. My dad especially was always interested in arts, and I heard he was very talented in drawing. During my childhood, every week he would get me about 10 CDs and two videos. He really opened me up to the artistic side, but then a lot of Koreans are very academic and very conservative, and so I've been lead to study a lot and never encouraged to do something related to art. [My parents] kind of struggled with it at first when I went into the industry, but now they're very happy with where I'm going with it.

Everyone gets their own story. Before Hollywood happened to me, I just took a break to think about whether I belong in the industry or whether I should be listening to whatever people were telling me.

È fantastico avere altre piattaforme in fase di sviluppo e vedere molti asiatici essere inclusi in un progetto... Entrare in un enorme franchise in cui la maggior parte degli attori e della troupe non è asiatica è importante. È qualcosa su cui tutti dobbiamo lavorare. Spero che cresca.

We are just starting that movement. Diversity has definitely been increasing but still we have the issue of inclusion and that is why I am so grateful about playing the role of Nagini in the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise. It is great to have other platforms being developed and to see a lot of Asians being included in a project... To come into a huge franchise where most of the actors and crew are not Asians is important. That is something we all have to work on. I hope for it to flourish.
