*Qualcuno avrebbe naturalmente creduto che ciò che succese in Uganda negli ultimi nove anni ci avrebbe insegnato una lezione permanente, e dato al nostro popolo un nuovo senso di unità e di zelo nel salvaguardare la nostra libertà così difficilmente vinta. Dopo solo un'anno dopo la liberazione però, ancora una volta l'opportunismo, l'ambizione personale e l'avarizia in alcuni dei nostri leader hanno degenerato nei futili battibecchi che in passato contribuirono alla frammentazione della nostra società e permisero a Amin di ottenere e consolidare il suo controllo sul nostro paese, creando danni senza precedenti. Invito tutti gli ugandesi a rendersi conto che solo attraverso la divisione possono tali calamità succedere e, nel vedere lo stato in cui si trova il nostro paese oggi, riconoscere quanto sia semplice disfare ciò che impiegò anni a costruire.

*È ironico che dopo tutte le pontifiche da parte dei leader del cosiddetto mondo civilizzato riguardo l'orrore e le atrocità commesse da Hitler durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, nessun capo d'una grande potenza si sentii obbligato a porre fine alle simili atrocità commesse dal mostro in Uganda nell'ultimo quarto del ventesimo secolo.
