Kennedy]] citò poi queste parole in un discorso rivolto al Parlamento irlandese a Dublino il 28 giugno 1963. Successivamente, nel 1968, Robert durante la campagna elettorale per le elezioni presidenziali, esplicitando nello stesso discorso di riferirsi a George BarnardBernard Show, disse: «Alcuni uomini vedono le cose come sono e chiedono: perché? Io sogno cose non ancora esistite e chiedo: perché no?» («''Some men see things as they are and say, why; I dream things that never were and say, why not.''»).
